Joseph's design was just the job for The Bluebirds warm-up shirts

Joseph DaviesThere was a special presentation at half time in Haverfordwest County’s opening home game at the Ogi Bridge Meadow Stadium against Penybont, when nine-year old Joseph Davies, whose family hail from Hundleton, was presented with one of The Bluebirds’ smart new warm-up tee-shirts by Harry Thomas, who was there in his role as a club community official.

It was fitting reward for Joseph because he had entered a competition to design the new piece of kit as part of a project as a pupil at Pembroke Dock Junior School - and it was shortlisted amongst others for the final decision to be made on the best effort, on the club’s app - and it was Joseph’s superb work of art which was chosen by those who follow the site.

Double delight for Joseph

Joseph was doubly delighted because he loves football and already plays for Monkton Swifts as part of his age-group team that is coached by Kieran Walton and Billy Smith - and his family is also immersed in sport, with dad Gethin as a goalkeeper at Hundleton & Monkton Swifts and with mum Laura always giving lots of support, as do his siblings Katie, Lily and Emily.

His uncles Dylan, Alex, Rhodri and Huw are all keen sportsmen and perhaps the best-known family sportsman in his much younger days was grandfather, Gareth Davies, who captained Pembroke RFC’s first team for four years in his almost 20 years there, where he scored a shed-full of tries from his dynamic back row play.

Of course, proud granddad and grandmother Sandra were there at the match - and Joseph also had other treats where he helped to lead both teams onto the pitch at the start and enjoyed a half-time kick-about with some of the other youngsters there to nicely round off a memorable day for him and the rest of the Davies’ clan!
